Imbued with the spirit of camaraderie and the aim to stage the best of ALOHA students across the globe, the first leg of ALOHA International Mental Arithmetic Competition 2012 brought together students, parents and a number of distinguish dignitaries, teachers and Master Licensees last May 26, 2012 at Kinta Riverfront Hotel and Suites, Ipoh Malaysia.
Around 282 students tried to break a record of solving 70 equations in 5 minutes allotted time using mental, abacus and fingers techniques. With the speed and accuracy they have shown during the competition, the excitement, prestige and honor of ALOHA is once again proved its worth in the development of child’s maximum potential of learning.
The event was also graced by the presence of country and city managers together VIPs of different participating countries, showing their all-out support not only to their students but to the ALOHA organizers headed by Ms.Foong Chui Yean, Perak, Malaysia’s Manager.
Mr. Loh Mun Sung, Founder and the President of ALOHA Mental Arithmetic was overwhelmed to see his people gathered in a prestigious annual event as he expressed his gratitude and warm welcome to all the participants, guests and other stakeholders.
After a thorough checking of the results, the winners of different categories were announced which brought tears of happiness not only to the students but to their parents, teachers and country managers as well.
This year, the awarding of winners has been considered a breakthrough in the history of ALOHA Mental Arithmetic Competition after the crowd paid a standing oblation for Ahmed Moslim, a student with hearing and speaking disability from Sudan who landed Champion in category D.He proved that being physically challenged is not a hindrance to be equally best with others.
With Sudan as this year’s having the highest number of delegations, followed by cities and provinces of Malaysia, along with the representatives of the Philippines, ALOHA’s first leg of competition was considered a big success.
The next round of the competition which will happen on the 5th of August 2012 in Sydney Technology University, Sydney Australia is expected to be participated in by thousand of participants coming from 25 country networks of ALOHA across the globe.
