The long awaited Aloha International Abacus and Mental Arithmetic Competition was conducted on the 5th August, 2012 at Sydney Australia. This was the second phase of the International Competition following the first phase conducted at Ipoh Malaysia in May 2012
The event as its name was truly international in its flavour. Students from various countries like China, Malaysia, Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Spain and Australia across the continents participated in the competition. The Competition was organised by Aloha Australia and its team.
Over 300 enthusiastic Aloha students journeyed across the world accompanied by their parents to participate in the competition. The Competition was conducted at The Great Hall of University of Technology Sydney.
Children from the ages of 6 to 16 participated in the competition. The competition was conducted in 7 groups. It all began with some amazing demonstration of Aloha skills from the students which left the Australian audience awe struck.
Students attempted to complete 70 Sums of various computations and complexities in just 5 mins. It was a short time filled with frenzied movements on the Abacus and fingers flying in the air on the visual abacus as children raced with their mental Arithmetic skills.
The guests of honour who graced the event were Mr Lau Kim, President Malaysian Abacus & Mental Arithmetic Association (MAMAA)., Mr Loh Mun Sung, Founder Director, Aloha Mental Arithmetic Sdn. Bhd. (Malaysia), Mrs Kiran Motwani, International director , Mr Kumaran K, CMD of Aloha India., Mr Haider Ali, MD Aloha Bangladesh. Mr. Arturo and Ms Mireya , Aloha Mexico.
The event was presided by Ms. Polina Tjugito, Aloha Australia. The presence of Franchisees, Instructors, well wishers and friends added festivities to the occasion.
The Award Ceremony started off at 2’o clock in the afternoon. Over …. Trophies were given away to the Winners, including special Awards of Honour to the well deserving students.
The event also saw the signing ceremony of yet another new country – United Mexican States – Mexico as a new member country in the family of Aloha International.
The event ended at 5 pm with an exceedingly excited happy audience and students going home armed with the various trophies won.
