30th April 2011 …… was a special day for Aloha children from 8 countries across the globe as they gathered together under one roof to compete in the “Aloha International Abacus and Mental Arithmetic Competition 2011. “ It was held in the Ballroom of Hotel Corus at Kuala Lumpur. The competition was jointly organized by Aloha Central District Malaysia, MAMMA – Malaysia Abacus Association and the Zhejiang Abacus Society Hangzhou China. The competition was attended by over 350 participants from Malaysia, China, Indonesia, India, Bangladesh, Spain, Sudan and Philippines.
This was the first time our students from the country of Sudan from the African continent. It was a pleasure to watch the excited students from all across the world, work on their abacus using their Aloha skills to complete 70 sums in 5 minutes. A feat which is difficult to achieve by most of us. But the children stunned everyone with their performances in their levels and categories. There were a few who excelled in the competition by completing the questions in just under 3 mins.
The competition was graced by several dignitaries. The chief guest to the event was Mr Lau Swee Kim, the MAMMA President and the other honorable guests for the event were Dr. Nadeem Kiani and Mrs. Zeeshan Kiani Directors American Lycettuff school Lahore Pakistan, Mr Saiful Kareem, Mr Haider Ali Directors Aloha Bangladesh, Madam Shen Zu Pei, from the JiuBao village of Hangzhou China, Mrs. Kiran Motwani Aloha Spain Partner & Technical Director, Mr Abouel Gasim Director Aloha Sudan, Mr. Tushar Kansagra Aloha Gujarat. Mr. Daniel S Villflor and Mr. Welmor Pajares from Aloha Philippines.
Aloha International celebrated the day with a momentous occasion. We welcomed Pakistan as our new member in the Aloha International family. It was a milestone achieved as Pakistan’s joining the Aloha family will bring us many more new students to join us.
There were over 160 prizes announced in the event. There were numerous winners in each category. The event ended with a grand prize distribution. It was a memorable day for all.
