ALOHA INT. Competition – 8th Aug 2010, Melaka Malaysia

Aug 8th 2010 marked the culmination of the “ALOHA International Abacus and Mental Arithmetic Competition 2010. “ It was held at Melaka Malaysia.The competition was conducted over 2 phases in China and Malaysia in order to make it convenient to all our students from various countries to participate. The first phase of this International event took place in Hangzhou, China on the 6th of May 2010. The second phase of the competition was jointly organized by Aloha Melaka, MAMMA – Malaysia Abacus Association and the Zhejiang Abacus Society Hangzhou China. The competition was conducted for over 300 participants from Taiwan, Malaysia, China, Indonesia and India.

The competition was graced by several dignitaries. The chief guest to the event was Madam Datin Dewi Murni bt Ibrahim. She graced the event on behalf of her husband, Datuk Md Sirat Abu, Member of Parliament of Bukit Katil. The event also witnessed the presence of Mr Lau Swee Kim, the MAMMA President, Mr. Chen Min Long, President of Taiwan Zhonghua Abacus Association, Madam Shen Zu Pei, from the JiuBao village of Hangzhou China.

Jiu Baovillage and its school have contributed a lot to the development of ALOHA Mental Arithmetic since 1996. The Jiubao students have become modern day ambassadors to the rest of the world in field of Abacus skills. The village was the proud recipient of this year’s Zhusuan Award for 2010.

The Competition was also graced by the representatives of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Malaysia. The officials were impressed with the skill demonstrated by students. They inaugurated the event with an encouraging opening specch to all the participants and by releasing the question papers.

In this 2010 International competition, the students have attempted 2 papers of 70 question each in 5 mins in the Aloha category We had 11 different level groups taking part in the event. The best results from both the phase have been considered to arrive at the winners.

However in the open category the students from China and Taiwan attempted 80 questions in each of the paper and two students excelled in their performance by scoring a 100% perfect score no errors, Dai Gao Yun from China and Tshang Li Wen From Taiwan.

The event ended with a grand prize distribution. It was a memorable day for all.
